When I was studying photography in the early 1990’s I came across a book by a photographer that changed the way I viewed photographs and made pictures in ways I couldn’t have imagined at the time. That book was ‘Cape Light’ and the photographer – Joel Meyerowitz. To this day it remains on of my most prized books in my collection. Of course, Joel’s work in Cape Cod was by no means his first or last body of work, and should not be seen as representing wholly as a photographer, but it was the first of his work that I’d encountered, leaving a lasting impression on me and my work.
In 2018 I finally got to make the trip to Cape Cod. One of my friends challenged me to make images that paid homage to the great Joel Meyerowitz. The photographs in that book represent work from the 4 fleeting days I spent driving and exploring this stunning location. You could say it was a bit of a pilgrimage for me. Whether I have done it justice is for you to judge, but I had a fabulous whilst trying.
